Long-Term Security
Retirement
Traditional pension combined with a 401(k) employer match and the POAB supplemental fund for sworn members and dispatchers.
Pension
30% is based on 30 years of service. 1% per year of service.
401(k) Match
A sworn member receives a 5% match through year 5 and it increases 2% a year through year 10
Peace Officers' Annuity and Benefit Fund (POAB)
$913.50 monthly pension payment based on 30 years of membership in POAB.
Georgia DPS offers a traditional pension plan of 1% per year of service, combined with a 401(k) plan with an employer match that rewards career longevity. The employer match increases after year five; however, employees are not required to increase their contribution beyond 5% to receive the full employer match. To further supplement these benefits, sworn members and dispatchers are also eligible to participate in the Peace Officers' Annuity and Benefit Fund.

Paid leave accrued annually from day one of employment.
Holiday Leave
13 paid holidays per year recognized by the State of Georgia.
Sick Leave
15 days of paid sick leave accrued per year.
Annual Leave
15 days of paid vacation leave accrued per year.
Coverage
Health Insurance
Employees have the option to enroll or decline health insurance coverage.
Health insurance is provided by the
State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP).

Supplemental Income
Off-Duty Police Employment
Employees that have been in a sworn capacity for at least 6 months are eligible for off-duty police employment with supervisor approval. For more information, please review our Off-Duty Police Employment policy.
