KEY THINGS TO CONSIDER
REQUIREMENTS
Before applying, make sure you meet these basic qualifications. All requirements must be met before starting Trooper School.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to provide proof
- Must possess a valid Driver's License
- Must be at least 21 years old upon graduation from Trooper School You may apply before turning 21, but must be 21 by graduation day
- Must hold a High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Must pass a comprehensive criminal background investigation
- No felony convictions
- Must pass a polygraph examination
- Must pass a pyschological evaluation
- Must pass a drug screening
- Must pass a physical fitness test to Georgia Department of Public Safety standards
- Vision: Minimum 20/60 uncorrected in each eye, correctable to 20/40 or better with glasses or contacts
- Must meet requirements for P.O.S.T. certification by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council

TACTICAL TRAINING
Every stop is different. Traffic enforcement, criminal interdiction, crash investigation — no two days on the road are the same.
TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT
When major incidents shut down Georgia's highways, Troopers are first on scene — coordinating response and keeping the public safe.
MAJOR INCIDENT RESPONSE

AIR & GROUND OPERATIONSTRAINING & EDUCATION
Trooper School is an intense and demanding law enforcement academy that combines military-style discipline, academic instruction, emergency vehicle operations, firearms training, defensive tactics, and physical conditioning. Trooper School lasts 22 weeks and is conducted at the GPSTC in Forsyth. If you are a certified law enforcement officer with at least two years of experience, you may be eligible to attend an accelerated 14-week Trooper School. For more information, contact a recruiter.
